Sabiki Rigs - A Sabiki rig is a multiple hook arrangement for catching bait
fish. At least that was the way it was introduced to me a few years ago. I've
since learned that you can catch a lot more with them than just bait, but that
is for another story. The Hayabusa brand Sabiki rig is the only bait rig that I
will buy now. I've tried three other brands and they all work OK, but if you
fish a Hayabusa next to any of them, the Hayabusa brand will out fish any other
brand two to one. One of the most important factors, to me, is that with them my
anglers can catch a well full of fresh live baits in a short period of time. If
there are four anglers fishing for bait and they are pulling up 4 to 6 baits at
a time, you can see how the well will fill pretty quickly. I still cast net bait
most of the year, but there are a few months when the bait I want is not balled
up in shallow water. Many times we are in 50 feet of water and all the bait is
around the marker buoys in the ship's channel. That's certainly too deep for a
cast net. Then there are days when the only bait is on the bottom
that I plan to
fish for the day and that could be any depth, but it is always rocky. I don't
know about you but I'm not throwing my expensive cast net onto a bunch of rocks
and coral. Break out the Sabiki rigs and you're in business. I wouldn't normally
carry these items in my catalog because I am not a tackle dealer. I specialize
in hard to find accessories, but based on the comments from my anglers that have
been out with me, these Sabiki rigs are something new in most parts of the
country. I have been asked to send them all over the country, so I figured maybe
I'd better start carrying them.
I really haven't described them yet, so here it
is; Sabiki rigs are multiple hooks on dropper lines strung from a main line that
is attached to the line on a fishing rod. At the bottom of the rig is a weight
(I use at least 8 ounces and many of the pro bait fishermen use up to a pound of
lead for the larger baits). That's a pretty bad drawing on the right, but
picture it with up to 8 droppers.
There are hundreds of sizes, styles, colors and hook arrangements in the Hayabusa line and I will only be carrying a few of them. I can, however, special order any Hayabusa rig made, with delivery in less than a week, so don't hesitate to ask for what you want.

PS. Don't accept cheap imitations. I've found some on the market that look almost identical until you notice they have chrome swivels and snap swivels that attract mackerel bite-offs. Others have very light main line and dropper lines that break under the strain of four or five baits being lifted into the boat.
